American Empire : The Bush Doctrine-Pro

  • Bush Is Right on the Axis of Evil -- The only legitimate criticism of the Axis of Evil speech is that it was too limited. There is indeed a working alliance involving Iran, Iraq, and North Korea, and it embraces other countries as well, including Syria, Libya, and Saudi Arabia. It is a political and strategic alliance that unites this generation's tyrants in common cause against the democratic West. (Added: 17-May-2004 Hits: 300 Rating: 5.25 Votes: 4) Rate It
  • How Pre-Emption Will Work -- The president says he will use all his power to combat "the new totalitarians" that would threaten Americans with weapons of mass destruction. In theory, this is a perfectly acceptable -- and prudent -- security policy. In a world where weapons of mass destruction have proliferated to such a large degree that even non-governmental organizations have access to them, it is imperative that we have the ability to seek out and destroy such weapons before they are used against us. • Pre-emption Is Effective Tool -- Since President Bush restated in 2002 that one weapon in the U.S. arsenal would be to hit America's enemies before they hit us, there has been a bizarre outbreak of handwringing in foreign-policy circles. What should be an obvious approach--arresting an enemy before he takes American lives--has become a "radical" idea. (Added: 17-May-2004 Hits: 162 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • Preemption, Unilateralism, and Hegemony -- The so-called "Bush Doctrine," the set of policies promulgated by the president in the wake of the September 11 attacks, was meant to bring clarity out of a moment of chaos. Yet for many--and not least for the American foreign-policy establishment--the new direction was both disturbing and confusing. (Added: 17-May-2004 Hits: 156 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • Remarks by the Vice President to the Heritage Foundation -- (October 10, 2003) In his speech to the Heritage Foundation, Dick Cheney talks about “the war on terror,” international law and multilateralism, and delivers a concise statement of the Bush Doctrine: “Any person or government that supports, protects or harbors terrorists… will be held to account.” (Added: 13-May-2004 Hits: 79 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It

  • The Central Front -- Uniquely, democratic realism recognizes that in the present era of Islamic terror, security is only attainable through engagement, and that engagement will only have meaningful long term benefits if followed by committed democratic construction. In contrast, a policy of containment -- one that focuses on either multilateral diplomatic discussions or a realist playing of one hostile interest against another -- works to merely reinforce the status quo that breeds Jihadist killers. • The Doggedness of War -- The Lybian decision to surrender its WMD's linked to Bush doctrine. (Added: 17-May-2004 Hits: 105 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • The Jefferson-Kennedy-Bush Doctrine -- The war on Iraq is not preemption, nor is it the first battle in what chin-strokers and denizens of the "middle of the road" like to call the "dangerous" Bush doctrine. The war on Iraq follows 17 United Nations Security Council Resolutions, 12 years of failed diplomacy, and an attack on Kuwait... (Added: 17-May-2004 Hits: 93 Rating: 8.00 Votes: 1) Rate It
  • Why Neo-Conservatism Best Defends America -- The neo-conservative strategic paradigm has become the rhetorical punching bag of pundits across the political spectrum. Not only leftists, but isolationist-leaning conservatives and libertarians have consistently scoffed at what they view as the far-fetched arrogance of a paradigm that seeks to implement regime change and build democracy in the autocratic and religiously radical Middle East. • Why Preemption is Necessary -- In situations where the evidence demonstrates overwhelmingly that behavioral trends, capability, and motives all point to imminent threat, it may be necessary for the President... (Added: 17-May-2004 Hits: 138 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
  • Why the Bush Doctrine Makes Sense -- Evil persons (Charles Manson), evil ideologies (Nazism), evil regimes (Stalin’s), and evil actions (those of Mao and Pol Pot) do exist. Still, it may not be immediately obvious why President Bush used this particular word. There are four reasons... (Added: 17-May-2004 Hits: 79 Rating: 0 Votes: 0) Rate It
