Research Group

Hey, I'm going to be starting my own research group for people on Debate-Central.
Anyone who’s interested post your G-MAIL address below and I’ll invite you to the group.

You don’t have to be a phenomenal researcher to join the group, you just need to have some work ethic, nothing too tedious, maybe 3-5 hours a week should be fine for the group. Each week I’ll assign each of you to a specific argument, you won’t be expected to do too much. Probably a 8-10 page file each with a 1NC, block cards with analytics, and some 2NR overview analytics.

For each card sent into me I want a hand-written explanation of what the warrant of that card is, and as much information on the author you can find, trust me, this will make the quality of it much greater.

At the end of each week each person in the group will e-mail their work to me and I’ll put it together into one file, which I will then distribute to everyone who contributed. I promise that the files will be of excellent quality as long as everyone is willing to work.

Anyone interested? Anyone is welcome, I’m also going to send everyone’s own file back to them critiquing their work, so anyone who doesn’t write their own blocks now, this will improve you.

EDIT: Also, everyone joining will need to use the Debate Synergy template to make it easier on me...

I'd love to join, but I can't trust the validity of the cards...

Re: Research Group

What?

All cards will be home-cut by the members of the group, while I understand some of the best cards on certain issues have already been found and cut hundreds of times, we're going to strive for a vast majority of new cards. Also, I am going to check all cites for the cards myself to make sure they were cut properly, and only qualified author's cards will make the final product. (Below each card as I said before, I want a hand-written explanation of the warrants as well as MUCH as you can find on the author.)

The cards will be of astounding quality, that I can assure you. The amount we get depends on how many people join and what people we can get to set their priorites straight and trade-off that two hours of watching tv a day with debate research.

You know me better than that Jake.

Re: Research Group

Also, those in the group, do you like the idea of having like each member cut 2-3 Health Care politics uniqueness cards each week?

Re: Research Group

im willing to join, im kinda ok at researching but im am willing to improve, my email is aadi.kaul1@gmail.com

the uniqueness cards thing is interesting, but i think it should be instead of just Health Care Ptx, it should be like the 5 or 10 most popular DAs. just a thought

Re: Research Group

I was thinking health care ptx for a couple reasons.

1) It's the best PTX disad.
2) It requires the most up to date evidence.

I'll send you the invite.

Re: Research Group

This looks really cool!

I don't know that I'll be able to pop in every week to help look things over but I'll help out when I can whenever people have specific questions.

One thing I'd suggest for politics stuff is getting into google reader, especially Politico (www.politico.com/), TheHill.Com, the Atlantic (www.theatlantic.com/), the New Republic (www.tnr.com/) and any other major Washington news sites. These tend to have slightly more detailed news on the political process effecting major issues like Health Care, Climate, etc
