Hey guys,
I'm a novice starting out, and I'm going to my second tournament here soon (I got to semi-finals my first tourny) and I was wondering if this V/VC combo would fly -
Bcause the resolution is asking us whether or not compulsory immunization is justified, we must turn to the analytical thesis of this statement in order to derive a value for the round. The purpose of compulsory immunizations would be to ensure public health, and thus the health of the community and everyone in it. And because health comes before all other means of human welfare it is the correct value in the round
My standard for the round is protecting personal autonomy. Protecting personal autonomy achieves health because without autonomy one cannot make an unbiased, un-coerced decision about his health needs, and so the corporate capitalistic society that we live in will influence, and effectively make our decisions for us making us susceptible to any fault, medical or not in their product or service, effectively undermining any personal liberty that we may have and may cause severe backlash in not only the political spectrum, but also in the medical world.
Also, the only reason that I would be trying to link these two, is that I have no idea how I would attack a common "health" value
- I was thinking of running something that looked like this:
V: Autonomy
VC: Upholding Informed Consent
But i dont know how to effectively argue autonomy over health...
Any help would be appreciated
